About Rachel Szalay

Rachel Szalay is an Australian artist living in the Blue Mountains. With over 30 years of experience, she specialises in large format artworks using charcoal, ink, pastel, acrylic, and oils. Rachel earned her Visual Arts degree from the City Art Institute in Sydney and holds a Diploma in Acting from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney.

Rachel has participated in numerous exhibitions and has held solo shows in Sydney, Victoria, and the Blue Mountains. Her commissioned works are featured in both private and commercial collections across Australia and abroad. Additionally, she is featured in the books Artists Observed by Carole Hampshire and Luminous Colour by Linda Hibbs.

Her work blends traditional materials with a profound sensual and psychological response to the mythical Blue Mountains landscape and the small-town communities that inhabit it.

As an artist, I have the freedom to absorb and express what I see and feel around me. I love doing this. This is the world that makes sense to me.
